Frequently Asked Questions - What To Do

24 Hour Plumber: FAQ

I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

Many appliances and fixtures have isolating valves that can be turned off. For example, the toilet will have an isolating tap below or beside the cistern. If you cannot find a valve, or that doesn’t stop the leak, then turn off the mains water shutoff tap to cut off all water to your home.

Once that’s done, give our plumber a ring, whatever the day or time is. We will be there promptly to get things sorted.

While you wait, begin cleaning up any water, position a container to catch any drips, and remove valuable things from the area. If the property water is turned off, also switch off the heating for the hot water.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.

It is also known as an isolating valve, toby or stopcock.

Blocked Drains Problems

When your pipes are overflowing, you want assistance asap. Our 24 hour Sunnyhills plumbers know how overwhelming and damaging clogged pipes can be, and they are ready to get them unobstructed again.

Clogged pipes can be a major health hazard, especially if sewage is involved. Sometimes you can unclog it on your own with a plunger and some can-do attitude. If you do not have a plunger, our emergency plumbers can be there rapidly to get the pipes cleared.

Our vans are well equipped to resolve any drain emergency. Whether there is a item blocking the toilet, or a clog in the shower, or something has gone horribly wrong with the sewage pipes, our on call plumbers will get things flowing once more.

In the rare case that we can not get the blockage completely removed or more comprehensive repairs are needed, we will find a temporary solution to tide you over until we come back.

I have a plunger, can I unblock it myself?

If you have a plunger, it is worth trying to remove a blockage yourself. We suggest a plunger that has a long handle, especially for the toilet, so you can stand back out of the splash zone. Chemicals are not recommended as they seldom work well and can damage your drains.

Don’t let a obstructed drain ruin your day. Call us and our emergency plumber will have everything flowing smoothly in no time.

Don't Get Caught Without Hot Water

Hot Water Not Working

We tend to do not think about how heavily we count on easy fast hot water until it is not available any longer. Just finished up in the garden and really need a shower? Need to take care of a few dishes? The last thing you need is to turn on the water and find it’s barely warm.

When your hot water is not giving you that happy feeling, you want it working again fast. Whether the heating element has blown, the thermostat is defective and the water is luke warm or practically boiling, there’s a leak, or the tank is always overflowing, you need it working again quickly so your life can get back to normal.

Leaks in the hot water system can cost a huge amount, and can cause serious damage to your residence. If you have an electric cylinder, hot water heating often accounts for around thiry percent of your home’s power bill, so a leak can cause significant harm to your wallet very swiftly.

When you realise the water is too cold or hot, or there is a leak in the hot water system, call our Sunnyhills 24 hour plumbers right away. We’ll get your hot water working again quickly. If you find a large amount of water leaking, turn the water off at the mains tap, and also switch off the heating element, until our plumbers arrive.

If the existing hot water cylinder isn’t fixable, our professional plumbers can assist in picking the best options for your budget, home size and your area. If the rest of the system is also worn out, we can organise an upgrade so you’ll soon be enjoying life again.

Burst Pipes Fixed Promptly

Big or little, buried underground or in the floor, wall or ceiling, the pipes in your residence are a unseen but integral part of your daily activities. They bring clean water to your home, and transfer unclean water and sewage out.

Ususally we never even think of them. Not until something goes wrong, and all of a sudden you’re standing in a pool of water, or even worse, sewage. And now it urgently needs to be repaired as soon as possible, to prevent damage to your home, belongings and well-being.

Our 24 hour plumbers are set to be there quickly, so call us as soon as you discover a burst pipe or leak of any kind. You can reduce further flooding by turning the water off at the mains tap if required.

How did the pipe start leaking?

Pipes and taps can break down for many reasons. The pipes may simply be old and worn out. Or they could have frozen in extremely frigid weather and ruptured. Tree roots may have grown into underground connections. Or there may be an issue with how they were installed in the first place.

When the urgent plumber arrives, they will isolate the issues and repair them in a rapid and professional manner.

From Washers to Full Tap Replacements

Taps Leaking Or Dripping?

Do you own a annoying tap? A faucet that won’t turn on or off properly, drips, or is just busted?

Over the years, we’ve found that even a dripping tap can be a significant irritation. A little thing that can go unnoticed in the hurly burly of daily life without warning sounds like a jack hammer in the middle of the night, destroying your shuteye.

Not only is the sound frustrating, but a dripping or leaking faucet can raise your bills into orbit, especially if it’s the hot tap. Do not waste money and potentially cause long term damage to your residence, call our team now.

Whether you need a whole replacement faucet, or simply a washer that needs replacing, our professional urgent plumbers can efficiently diagnose the issue and remedy it. We even carry a modest selection of taps and faucets on hand to pick from, or can install a temporary one if needed.

As well as serving Sunnyhills with 24 hour plumbing of all types, we are available for non-urgent maintenance and installation work. Day or night, no job is too great or too small.

Why is my tap dripping?

Normally, a dripping tap is caused by a dilapidated or flawed washer, seal or ceramic cartridge. Depending on the style of faucet, we can frequently replace dilapidated parts immediately for a very reasonable outlay.
