I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

Many appliances and fixtures have taps that can be turned off. For example, the toilet will have an isolating tap below or beside the cistern. If you can’t find a tap, or that doesn’t stop the leak, then turn off the mains shutoff tap to cut off all the water to the residence.

Once that is done, give us a ring, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be there rapidly to get things sorted.

While waiting for the plumber to arrive, remove any significant items from the area, and mop up any water or put a bucket to catch the drips. If you have turned the mains water off, also switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.

Remember, a lot of appliances and fixtures have their own isolating valves also.
