I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is water still leaking, turn off the water to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go immediately to the main shutoff valve for your property. If you are unable to locate the water valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside the home to depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

Now give our on call plumbers a ring, any time of the day or night. We will be there as soon as possible to save the day.

While you wait for our emergency plumber to arrive, remove any significant items, clean up any water, and put a bucket to catch drips. You should also turn off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.

Remember, a lot of appliances and fixtures have their own isolating taps also.
