I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the tap to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go immediately to the main water valve for your home. If you are unable to find the tap to turn off, then you could try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside the residence to depressurise the system and reduce the leak.
