I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is leaking, turn the water off at the nearest service valve and then at the mains tap outside. If you can’t find the water main valve or a tap to the fixture, then turn on all the cold faucets inside and out to help depressurise the household pipework and minimise the leak.

Once that’s done, give our plumber a call, whatever the day or time is. We will be with you shortly to fix the leak.

While waiting for our emergency plumber, remove any significant things, wipe up any water, and place a bucket to catch drips. You should also turn off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.
