I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

A lot of appliances and fixtures have taps that can be turned off. For example, the toilet will have a valve below or beside the cistern. If you can’t locate a valve, or that doesn’t stop the leak, then turn off the mains water tap to cut off all water to the home.

Once that is done, give us a ring, no matter what the day or time is. We’ll be with you promptly to resolve the problem.

While you are waiting for the plumber to arrive, clear away any important things close to the leak, and wipe up any water or place a container to catch any drips. If you’ve turned the mains water off, also switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.

Remember, a lot of appliances and fixtures have their own isolating taps also.
