I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the tap to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go immediately to the main shutoff valve for your home. If you’re unable to find a water valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside the house to depressurise the system and reduce the leak.

Once that is sorted, give our plumber a ring, no matter what the day or time is. We’ll be with you shortly to resolve the problem.

While you wait for our plumber to arrive, begin cleaning up any water, place a bucket to catch any drips, and clear away important possessions from the area. If the property water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.
