I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

Many appliances and fixtures have service valves that can be turned off. For example, the toilet will have an isolating tap below or beside the cistern. If you cannot find a valve, or that does not stop the leak, then turn off the mains shutoff tap to stop all the water to the home.

Once that is done, give our team a ring, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be there shortly to fix the leak.

While you are waiting for the plumber to arrive, remove any significant things close to the leak, and mop up any water or place a container to catch the drips. If you’ve turned the mains water off, switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.

Remember, many appliances and fixtures have their own isolating taps as well.
